News from the Class of 1978
YOU ARE ALL INVITED!!!

Here's the story...

In the last few months of helping produce this event, I have heard from so many of my classmates and from those of other classes (including yours), suggesting that we open up the slate of weekend events to members of other classes. And finally (my appologies to Ms. Patten for beginning this sentance with "and"), with all the details for this Reunion put to bed and nothing left to do, we figured "Hey, why not?"

So here's what is going on...

The Reunion Weekend will include events from Friday, October 10 through Sunday, October 12, 2008. As some of you know, last July 31, 2007, decorated CHP officer and our classmate Scott Russell was killed in the line of duty. A few of the events during the weekend will also be fundraisers for the Amador High Adopt-A-Family Program, which provides memorable Holiday seasons for Amador's less fortunate families. Following the Reunion, the class will be making a sizeable donation to the Program on behalf of Scott, who's entire adult life was about givng back to his community.

The Reunion Weekend events will include (in chronological order):

Reunion Weekend Wine Tasting Tour
There will be a wine tasting tour of some of the Valley's finer wineries, on Friday afternoon from 12 noon until around 4pm. Attendees will caravan, so non-drinkers (designated drivers) are more than welcome to come along! For more information and details, contact Michelle LeVeira Flores at 925-484-3851 or by e-mail at rob_michelleflores@comcast.net

Pre-Game Tailgater / Homecoming Game / Post-Game Pizzafest
As of this writng, there are more than 40 people who have already sent in "head counts" for the Tailgate Party / The Homecoming Game / Post-Game Pizzafest at Gay 90's! This is always a great event, as we chow down on some great grub in the "North Quad" near what used to be the History Rooms (where Geib and Norton and Underwood's rooms were), then go in and root for AV (but mostly just gab and catch up with old friends!).

The food for the Tailgate is being graciously donated by Chuck Grandon's (Class of '78) mother's deli and we are asking a $2 donation from those at the Tailgater, which will go into the Adopt-A-Family Program.

From there we go into the game, and are currently under negotiations with the Admin to get a section roped off for Alums. Tickets are somewhere between $7-$10 (can you believe that?) but we'll get a price to you as soon as we have one.

After the game, those who want will be taking over Gay 90's Pizza (still the best in town!), and then probably back to the lounge at the Reunion Hotel (Pleasanton Sheraton near the Stoneridge Mall. Great rates available, just tell them you're with the Amador 78 Reunion!).

Reunion Memorial 4-Person Scramble Golf Tournament
This year's Tournament will not only be a fund raiser for the Amador High Adopt-A-Family Program on behalf of Tournament Honoree Scott Russell, but has also been opened up to the public. We've already had more than two dozen players from outside the class sign up, so Tee Slots will fill up fast. So if you want to play...send me an e-mail TODAY and reserve your spot(s). Also...TELL A FRIEND OR FRIENDS! Not only members of other classes, but your neighbors, relatives, anyone you know who would love to knock the ball around for a good cause.

Tournament Fees are $100 and include Greens Fees, Cart, Commemorative Tournament Polo Shirt, as well as a Gourmet Cart Lunch and drinks. Net proceeds will be donated to the Amador High Adopt-A-Family Program. Tournament Fees must be received no later than September 29th.

Send your checks to:

PLEASE READ THIS SECTION!!!
In an effort to make a really big contribution to the Adopt-A-Family Program, this year we are accepting Tournament Sponsorships. KEEP READING!!! There are details on the Golf Page of the Reunion Weekend section of the class website, but one of our classmates came up with and e-mailed me a great idea!

Either by yourself or with a group of friends/classmates, sponsor a Tee Box ($100) on behalf of a former Classmate/Teacher/Coach/Faculty Member who is no longer with us. Or on behalf of someone in your life (friend or family member you wish to commemorate).

Or make a Support Sponsorship ($25) on behalf of someone. What a wonderful way to remember our friends and family and help others at the same time.

The Tee Box at the 1st Hole has already been sponsored in memory of former classmate David Armknecht, who passed away from cycstic fibrosis in 1991.

Even if you can't amke it to the Reunion Weekend, if you would like to sponsor a Tee Box or make a Support Sponsorship on behalf of a former classmate, teacher, coach, faculty member, friend or family member (or maybe your place of business would like to!), send a check to:

Memorial Tournament Sponsor
c/o Rob and Michelle Flores
3003 Chardonnay Drive
Pleasanton, Ca   94566
Be sure and let us know the name of the person or business the Sponsorship represents and if you have a photograph we can place on the placard, that would be GREAT!

Reunion Weekend Dinner Dance
The crowned jewel of Reunion Weekend, this year's Dinner~Dance will be held in the Grand Ballroom AND the Garden Courtyard of the Pleasanton Hotel, in beauiful downtwon Pleasanton.

So far we have nearly 100 people who have responded that they will be attending the Saturday evening festivities, so it's going to be a barn-burner! A killer, four-course meal with scrumptious deserts and great company.

PLEASE SEND IN YOUR RESERVATIONS TODAY! I realize it is only a month away but that's still plenty of time. We need to give the Hotel kitchen an initial headcount soon, so let's at least find out how many of you are planning on going. If you are certain you'll be coming, shoot me an e-mail and let me know and you can get your checks in later.

RESERVATIONS AND CHECKS MUST BE RECEIVED NO LATER THAN SPETMEBER 30, 2008 AND THERE WILL BE NO...ZERO....NADA....ZIPPO...TICKETS SOLD AT THE DOOR

Reservation Tickets for the Dinner~Dance are $80 per person or $150 per couple. Now this doesn't mean you have to BE a couple. Even if you're not even dating or, in the case of our classmates Chuck Gilliam and Greg Ozen, just buy your tickets together and save $10!!!

Reunion Farewell Picnic - Pleasanton Sports Park, behind Acquatic Park Pool
Very casual, bring the kids. Relaxing lunch, maybe so swiming or volleyball, just widnign down from the big weekend. Check the class website in the next week or so for more details

What's important is that you make it to as many of the Reunion Weekend events as you can and join the rest of us in what will definately be the best Reunion in years!
